Sunnyvale Planning Commission was presented the Peery Park Specific Plan (PPSP) Environmental Impact Report (EIR) at their Monday, August 22, 2016, meeting. The PPSP outlines community intent, development code, design guidelines and plan implementation of the industrial area located south of S.R. 237, west of N. Mathilda Ave. and north of Central Expressway. The industrial area has experienced a development change from single story R&D sites to multi-story, Class A & B space. Sunnyvale City Council tasked city staff to develop a plan that would help guide future development.
After a review and discussion, the Planning Commission certified the PPSP EIR with a majority vote of 3-2. (The dais was missing two excused planning commissioners that evening.) The next step, to recommend adoption of the PPSP for the General Plan, stalled. This is because a vote of support or rejection requires a minimum of 4 commissioners to agree one way or the other. In this case the vote kept coming up as 3-2. Due to the impasse, city staff will revise the report for clarity and present it September 12, 2016 to the Planning Commission. This will impact the City Council date, which is to be determined.
